My video story was a depiction of my journey through gymnastics. I wanted to use footage of my awards and leotards throughout the years, some home videos of me doing gymnastics at a young age, and some personal interviews. I feel all this together helped paint the picture to viewers of what my journey has been like, and how far I have come in this sport.
I started off by recording videos panning through my medals and leotards, because I knew these would be good transitions that also helped show a piece of my story. Then I recorded two long interviews, one about my younger days in gymnastics and one about my current life with gymnastics. Finally, I found old home videos as well as current videos of my gymnastics and downloaded them for the video. I categorized the videos into bins, then cut each of the videos to the length I would be using. I would play the video, add an in point and an out point, then when I was happy with the clip I would use the Command+U shortcut to make it it’s own clip. I did this with all the videos until I had each of them at the proper length for the video.
The video starts with me panning through my medals with some of the interview clips playing in the background. I made sure the video of the medals was on V1, so it would overwrite the interview. I wanted the videos to tell the story with my words used as a background. I then cut to some old home videos of me as a young gymnast. I wanted to add this for a few reasons. Partially so I could show how young I was when I started, but also to show my transformation. After these videos I cut to the leotards through the years transition, and then start interviews about gymnastics in my life now. My newer college videos play over my voice, to show how far I have come in gymnastics. The final part of the video is my favorite. I ended the interview at a video of me dismounting the beam at a major competition. I had the noise come in immediately after my interview. You hear my team explode with excitement, and it fades out. I used the points on the volume bar to make points for the volume to start immediately after the interview, and then fade out. This created the ending I wanted where I talked about my team in the interview, and you heard them support me immediately after.
After reading my group’s suggestions for corrections, I went back and made the changes. One suggestion was to add music, so I added music from Free Stock Music. The track was called “Remember” and I felt it added a lot of dimension to my video. I made sure the track faded in and out to keep up with the flow of the video. Another suggestion was to raise the volume of my interviews, my group member said they were slightly hard to hear. I used the volume bar to raise the audio level. Overall, I think my video quality was increased significantly with these corrections.
